What are Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Activities?

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Activities, or DEI activities for short, are exercises that you and your team may conduct to develop a workplace culture that recognizes every employee's distinct personality while fostering a genuine sense of acceptance and therefore belonging in the community as a whole.

Although diversity, equity, and inclusion are linked ideas, each of these notions has its own unique definition and set of core values.

Diversity in the workplace refers to the fact that employees come from various racial and ethnic backgrounds, gender identities, sexual orientations, ages, religious persuasions, and other background characteristics.

In a workplace that practices equity, each employee is dealt with in a manner that is fair and just. One of the most crucial aspects of equality is ensuring that every single worker has the resources they require to be successful and the opportunities to do so.

In the workplace, inclusion refers to cultivating an atmosphere in which members of groups that may have been traditionally excluded owing to factors such as gender, color, sexual orientation, etc., are actively included and respected for the unique perspectives they bring to the table.

It is essential that all three of these ideas are ingrained in the culture of your organization as well as the goals you have for it.

Participate in Games Based on the DEI

There are many DEI-themed games that you and your team may play together, making them suitable for various settings, including online group games, finding the ideal icebreaker, and in-person events. Your team will be able to acquire new skills, advance in their development, and have a good time playing DEI games.

What This Activity Promoting Diversity Helps Support:

It may be a lot of fun to encourage employee engagement and learning by playing DEI games, and it can also help create a sense of belonging in the workplace.

Your team members should be encouraged to participate in DEI games rather than required to do so, as this is our recommendation. Everyone's comfort level varies, and employees are typically more engaged when they choose to participate voluntarily.

In-person instructions for how to do this DEI activity:

Step Apart, Step Together is a fun exercise that may be hosted in the workplace. In this game, two team members move away from one another when the team shouts out something about which they are different and step toward one another when the team calls out something about which they are alike.

It is a wonderful approach to appreciating differences while demonstrating that commonalities exist.
